Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition, Guwahati was initially known as Food Craft Institute which has been upgraded in the year 1995as Central Institute of Hotel Management and is one of the premier hotel management colleges in the country. The Institute was initially located at Bhangagarh of Guwahati and shifted to its own infrastructure built on 20 bighas of land located at VIP Road, Upper Hengrabari, Barbari, Guwahati 781036 in April, 2006. The institute has again relocated to AIDC Campus, Adjacent to Senco Jewellery, Opposite Rajib Bhawan, Bhangagarh , Guwahati-05 effective 1st January, 2026.
The FCI was affiliated to the State Council for technical education of Govt. of Assam, the Institute subsequently got affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology, New Delhi I the year 1995.The Degree till 2022 has been offered in (B.Sc) Hospitality and Hotel Administration through a collaborative programme by National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology, New Delhi and Indira Gandhi Open University, New Delhi. Since 2023 National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology, New Delhi is affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi and JNU is offering both B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees to the students under NCHMCT, Noida. The Institute is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and is governed by a society registered under the Societies Registration Act (XXI of 1860). The Institute and its curricula have been designed to train promising and talented young boys and girls in hospitality management. . Under the able guidance of a trained and experienced team of faculty, the Institute aims to professionally equip the trainees to take up positions of responsibility in various branches of the hospitality industry.
Apart from the above the institute also offers skill certification programme in Food Production & Patisserie and various Diploma Courses in Bakery & Confectionary, Front Office Operations, Accommodation Operations, and Food & Beverage Service. The institute offers a PG Diploma in Accommodation Management and professional certification course in Bartending.
IHM Guwahati is a preferred training centre for the courses conducted for the Directorate General of Resettlement, Ministry of Defence and Assam as well as Tripura State Rural Livelihood Mission in the NE India.
