The Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Guwahati is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The Institute is pledged to train promising men and women in hotel management, and catering technology, and in specific fields such as cookery bakery, food & beverage service, front office, accountancy, house-keeping management and allied topics, depending on the branch of the industry which the trainee desires to take up. Practical presentation and emphasis on nutritional values is a significant aspect of the technical training given to the students. The institute has a new set up of laboratories with latest facilities for practical training. All the labs are spacious with modern planning. This institute has two blocks of building dedicated for the Administration and practical Labs and another is for theory class rooms. There are eight well equipped kitchens, Bakery and Confectionary. A well planned restaurant with display kitchen to learn the classical style of Food and Beverage service. As well as a well planned restaurant is used for basic F & B learning. These restaurants are accompanied with well equipped bar also. The Institute can boost for its well appointed library with a stock of 10,000 new and old books which are available for reference and lending to the students. A compact House Keeping practical laboratory and a well equipped separate laundry may be the envy of the industry. The computer laboratory is well equipped for individual practice sessions. Also the Institute has two PMS software’s viz:-Fidelio and IDS as recommended by NCHMCT for front office practical classes.

The Institute boost for its well equipped air conditioned auditorium with a capacity of 400 students, a well furnished board room/conference room with separate interview room which facilitates the campus and IT interview for the students desiring to join the hospitality Industry.

Guwahati being the gateway to the northeast and with urbanization and industrialization, catering establishments are increasing in large numbers. Apart from the hotels and restaurants there is an urgent need to provide tastier and nutritive meals on a large scale to the hospitals, the outdoor catering establishment is in growth schedule to conferences, seminars, to private sectors, undertakings, rest houses, tea gardens etc. Large number of trained men and women are necessary to meet the high standards to be maintained in all such hospitality related programmes and in the hotel industry.

IHM, Guwahati was founded way back in 1984 as Food Craft Institute with its temporary campus located at Ajanta Path, Beltola.The Institute was upgraded as IHM in the year 1995 The founder Principal was Mrs.Shibani Roy.The new campus foundation stone was laid by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi in the year 2002 and then the campus shifted in the year 2006: Within the campus, quarters for principal, faculty and staff are located along with separate hostels for boys and girls. Apart from producing professionals there are activities, which are regularly held like Food Festival, Blood Donation Camps, and Annual Sports Meet etc.
